To celebrate the start of the Sinhala/Tamil New Year holidays, the five students of our Sunset Villa home were treated with a three-day trip to the
seaside at Trincomalee and beautiful Uppaveli Beach. Our dear friend and neighbour Heide Rehaag provided for our lodgings and all activities
and was a wonderful chaperone as well! Our transportation was provided by our old friend Kate Malony from the USA. Thanks Heide and
Kate for providing a wonderful memory for us!
Our Holiday
We departed our Sunset Villa home in Kandy at 5:30 in the morning, March 31. An hour into our journey, our first stop was at
Mariamman Hindu Temple, a huge and beautifully ornate Hindu temple in Matale. An hour further on, at Dambulla we visited the
Golden Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple carved into rock caves.
We finally reached Trincomalee in time for lunch and spent the afternoon enjoying our beachfront lodgings on beautiful Uppaveli Beach.
Next day we visited famous Koneswaram Hindu Temple,
perched high on the tip of a peninsula jutting into the sea. We also visited beautiful Nilaveli Beach.
