Mt. Lavinia Beach & ExcelWorld

3 December 2006

Living in the interior of the island, our Wattegama children rarely if ever have the opportunity to visit their beautiful seaside.  This opportunity was provided by the generosity and efforts of OSI sponsor Sharmila Cassim, right here in Sri Lanka.  The children spent the morning frolicking on the beach, followed by a buffet lunch at a beach-side restaurant, and an afternoon at ExcelWorld amusement park nearby.

Mount Lavinia Beach

We chartered a bus for the five-hour ride from Wattegama home to Colombo.  Our first destination was beautiful Mt. Lavinia Beach.  Novice beach-goers that we were, carefully cuffing-up our pants and holding up our dresses, we waded meekly into the water only to be knocked over by the first wave, followed by two hours of unbounded frolicking and joy!   We then changed into dry clothes and enjoyed a fantastic, huge sea-food lunch followed by ice-cream, coordinated by Ms. Cassim at a wonderful restaurant right on the beach.

ExcelWorld

After lunch, we traveled to ExcelWorld amusement park in central Colombo, where they spent the entire afternoon.   An overcast day, the weather was perfect for an entire day outdoors, protected from the heat of the Sri Lankan sun.
