Annual Summer Camps

July/August 2019

In what is clearly becoming a tradition, for the fourth year in a row our kids enjoyed summer camps in the mountains and at the seaside, though this year we chose new distinations for each...

Panichishte

July 23-26

Some of our youth are unable to endure the long journey across Bulgaria to the seaside.  Others simply prefer the silence and fresh air of the mountains to escape the summer heat.  So these enjoyed several days at Panichishte, a small resort village in the Rila mountains about two hours from their Kyustendil home.  Twenty-two children and ten staff attended.  Multiple daily activities were planned in advance by the incredible home staff, so each day the kids had a choice of which activity they'd like to partake in.  These included a full day's mountain hike for our six most intrepid!  Besides these activities, the kids enjoyed fantastic food and hospitality at the hotel, and plenty of leisure time to enjoy the hotel playground, take evening walks, and play games.

Kraimorie

August 14 - 19

Our eldest youth especially... ESPECIALLY... love the seaside, so this year they were extra excited to experience it at a new location.  Ten youth and 4 staff spent a week at a resort in Kraimorie.  They stayed in their own little bungalows at the resort, just a short walk from the beach.  They spent most mornings at the beach, returning "home" for lunch and a short siesta.  Afternoons were occupied by a trips to nearby tourist attractions, including the Marine Gardens in Burgas and bird natural reserve.  Evenings were spent in walks throught he village, cafe hopping, and games, dance, and music to burn any remaining energy.  But the unanimous favourite part of the day for all was their mornings at the beach, with its fine sand and calm waters.

Our grand week at the seaside was provided in full by Nicholas Tummillo, OSI's treasurer and vice president.  Nicholas knows each of these youth personally which made their week all the more special for them.  Substantial as this opportunity was, it's just one of many that Nicholas has provided for OSI children.  Thanks Nicholas, you have made the world quite a bit brighter for so many of OSI's youth, and provided memories for them that will last a lifetime.
Our Panichishte mountain excursion was provided by a memorial to Kathleen Malony, a long-time OSI sponsor and donor whose legacy continues to impact OSI's children, as it has so many times in the past.  We miss you Kate, and we never forget you...
